After reading for 15 minutes Ive found out that i really like old fashion books. :). i grabbed one of my moms books before i left for school called "The Penny" by Joyce Meyer and Deborah Bedford. It takes place in St.Louise, so the voice of the two authors are very southren. Im only on the 3rd page, but already i have a very vivid image in my head of how her home town looks. 'her' would be the main character,Jenny. Her older sister is a spit fire and always has the last word. I think if i had to compare myself with a character it would be Jean, the older sister. The only thing that i dont really like is that the books so detailed its a little hard to get into at first. Its still not as intriguing as i would like it to be, but it is a good start for a book so far...and im only on the third page :).

during our 15 minutes of reading, i read a wrinkle in time. So far it is sort of interesting. it is about a girl who feels ugly and awkward next to her two younger brothers. her father has dissappeared and that weighs heavlely on her as well. Her youngest brother is a pretty cool character. He can, in a way predict the near future; more specifically that of his mother and sister. He always knows when they are about to do something.

the book i read for 15 minutes was interesting. i got it off of the shelf. it ws a sad love story about this woman who met a man at a hotel. the womans daughter recently lost her husband and was depressed about it for months afterwards. the part i stopped at was when the mother was trying to cheer her up. it was a sad story, and it was done by the same author that rote the notebook. i havent really gotten what the book was about, but the beginning talked about divorce and how the kids cope with it. i kinda liked it.

The book i read in class today was called Cell by Stephen King. I like the book a lot, from what i could read in 15 minutes. I think it seems very interesting so far. I would like to continue reading this book to find out what happens, even though something that ive read so far was really creepy. I would love to read all of Stephen Kings books because he is an awesome writer.

In class today, I read a book from Mrs. Stallman's shelf. I'm not sure what the title was though. Anyway, so far, it's about a FBI agent, who is about to retire. He is really tough and has recieved the nickname "Dirty David." His boss, Ned, is also about to retire. They joke around with eachother a lot, but have respect for eachother. David is really into this case about a missing girl and Ned wants him to concentrate on another. That's all I was able to read.

During reading for 15 minutes I read a very interesting book. It was called the things they carried. So far It is about a lieytenent named Jimmy Cross. In the book he was at war and he could not stop thinking about a girl he liked. The girl was far away and wrote to him. She mostly wrote about the college that she went to. The book then talked about how men had to protect themselves against trench foot. It also said that their ponchoes came in handy when a man got shot. They had to carry the man's body with the man's poncho. I decided after reading that last few paragraphs that this book was not for me. I'm sure it's a good book but I really don't like to hear about people dying in a war. If the main character dies while in love the book is not for me!

Today I chose to read a book off the shelf in class. It was a book based off of People Magazine and it was all about serious crimes. I chose to read it because I'm taking Criminal Justice second block. The article I read was about a cannable named Jeffrey Dahmer; it creeped me out. For anyone who doesn't know, Jeffrey Dahmer grew up in Bath, Ohio, which is near Revere. He murdered about fifteen people, and as if that's not bad enough, he ate them too. He was sentenced to life in prison but was eventually beat to death by another prisoner. Overall, the article was really disturbing...

I read a little more of "Catch 22" today. There's very little to say about it, it was just a conversation two of the characters had. It started out about a General and a Chaplain talking about how prayer before flight missions might help boost troop moral, then it segwayed into a conversation about tomatoes. It's a good book, even the the section I read was a little bland. I'm only half way done, but it's already the greatest book I've ever read.

Trish, what is the book called? If it was on my shelf, I may have read it...
Sara, don't worry. Jimmy Cross does not die...but others do...
Many others; it is almost 9:00...where are you????? Busy reading, I suspect...ha!

I don't remember the title of the book I read in class today. It was the biohazard one. I liked that book because it was suspensful from the very beginning. Not to spoil it but, within the first few pages there was an uncurable disease and an explosion on a plain. It fit right in with what I'd prefer to read. I want to read more next weds.

In my 15 minutes of reading i read To kill a mockingbird. I think this book is pretty interesting. I like how the setting is back in time and old fashion kind of. The characters in the book all have good personalities. My favorite character so far is scout she speaks her mind and she seems like a good leader to me. The book describes things very well like the neighborhood and all the people that live there. Its a good book i think i could finish reading it. :)

After reading my magazine for 15 minutes, i found an interesting article. The article was about a world speed record at the salt flats. The vehicle went over 350 MPH and is powered by a 4 cylinder hemi engine. This engine makes over 1200 hp and 1000 ft-lbs of torque. It caught my attention because it is a small engine doing so much work, i cant wait to see what breaks that record.

For our 15 minute reading I read a very familiar book. It was called A Thousand Splendid Suns. I did read it for the summer reading assignment but I wanted to refresh my memory on went on in the middle of the book. I also jotted down some main points of the story. I cant really say I relate to anyone in the book but I'm sure many people can. I really liked the book but in the beginning it was kind of slow and boring but then it started to pick up. I have to say that the author is very detailed in his writing and it really makes the book exciting:)

Timmy, how'd a 4 cylinder engine go 350? That's insane. And Abby, Jeffery Dahmer is a creep, haha. He also lived really close which is creepy, but he also killed some people when he lived in Colorado for a while. I know I'm a freak for knowing this, sorry but he's a weirdo.

Sarah, the book you described seemed kind of intresting. I do like old fashion books that take place in the early 90's and books about hard times and tough situations. did you get the book off of stallmas shelf?Cause i may be intrested in looking at it. And yes i agree that it would very much SUCK if the main character dies while in love. but, it seems like an old ending. it happens in almost every war book , so myabe theres a twist on this books ending? i dont know but i will have to check it out later.

i agree with stephanie on the fact that stephen king is an amazing writer. i havent read cell yet though.the book that sara's reading looks pretty interesting, too. to kill a mockingbird is also a good book, and that was the first book i actually read in english while i was in tallmadge because i came here near the middle of november last year. i think that a thousand splendid suns was a very good book, and even though i had to read it, it ket my interest.

That article sounds disgusting!! Natalie spencer once told me that her mom went to school with Jeffery Dahmer! i don't know how anyone could eat another human being. Wouldn't you have a hard time swallowing that??

Unknown said...

Trish, I saw that you were reading a book by Nicohlas Sparks! From what you wrote about it, it didn't sound familiar to me so I'd really like to read it sometime in my life. Do you remember what it's called? I'm going to read another book by him called The Wedding when I find the time to.

Andrea...that's really creepy that Natalie's mom went to school with Jeffrey Dahmer.

Dylan, That book sounds pretty generic. Abby, Jeffrey Dahmer is one disturbing individual, but he was obviously a sissy. I mean, if you're a cannibal, why not eat parts of you that you don't need! He should have cut off his toes and ate them. What a coward. Timmy, only four cylinders??? Really? That's amazing! If the van make that, the imagine what they could do with 12...

:edit: I meant "They can" not "the van"

Abby jeffrey Dahmer was probably one of the creepiest people ever and its crazy that he lived so close to us! Dylan the book your reading sounds really interesting, you should find out what its called next week.

I remember in Mrs. Stallman's speech class we were talking about Jeffrey Dahmer. i was totally freaked out. i just don't understand how someone could willingly, or even if forced, eat another human being.

Sara - The Things They Carried sounds really interesting, but I'm not sure I could read another sad book right now. I'm still kinda depressed after A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Ed - The book I was reading was kinda generic, but it still kept me interested, which is strange.

Kayla- I also like old fashion books. That book that you read reminds me of the book to kill a mockingbird. There are a lot of books that are hard to get into at first but then those kind of books turn out great.

Stephanie- I love stephen king. He's a really great author. I have watch a lot of movies based off of his books. What was the thing that you read that was really creepy? haha.

i havent read to kill a mockingbird, but the movie wasnt bad. it was easy to follow and the only problem was it was in black and white. so if the book is anything like the movie then it shoud be good.

I read In Pharao's Army by Tobias Wolff. It starts out with Sergeant Benet riding in a truck being blocked by peasants. He is a very big man! So far it has lots of action. There running over the peasants bikes and almost killing them. This guy is crazy. The authur (main character) had a gold pocket watch that he kept with him at all times but someone stole it. I have read to where they are driving on a road and right in front of them a truck hits a mine and explodes. so so far this is a pretty good book that i might think about reading more of. Maybe.....
